Yet another study was recently published touting the benefits of increased physical activity (not just rigorous exercise!) with regard to preventing depression. Here is a powerful quote from the article:
“Independent of older adult’s physical and mental functioning, physical activity of any intensity (light-to-moderate or vigorous) and weekly frequency (once/week or higher frequency) conferred strong protection against the risk of depression in older adults.”
Now that’s a strong statement! So, get moving. No need to join the gym or buy exercise equipment. Just increase your steps, take the stairs, get off the sofa, dust and vacuum your home, move around. It all counts as physical activity.
