Many clinicians and programs offer structured “anger management” classes. In theory, this sounds like a great way for people to learn to better control their anger. However I have found that many people find these classes to be somewhat superficial and not necessarily very relevant to their personal situation. Because of this, I have decided to deal with each person who seeks my assistance in managing their anger as a unique individual.
If you want to deal with your anger problems, I will strive to understand your difficulties from your perspective as well as the perspective of those around you, such as your family, friends and coworkers. Once you and I share a common understanding of this, and we have identified triggers for your outbursts, we will collaboratively review the material that you would have learned in an anger management class. When this information is taught without a shared, thorough understanding of the individual and his or her environment, people have difficulty applying this new knowledge in their “real world.”
Please contact me to schedule an initial consultation so we can start to improve how you manage your emotions and your interactions with those around you.
